Wooden Sliding Doors — Your Questions Answered

    Materials & Construction

Q: What kind of wood are your sliding doors made from?
A: We use high-quality solid hardwood—either Meranti or Saligna—known for durability and beautiful natural grain.

Q: Do the doors come with glass and handles?
A: No, the doors are supplied without glass or handles, so you can choose the style and glazing that best fits your project.

Q: What kind of sill and sealing do the doors have?
A: All our sliding doors include:

    • A sturdy bronze aluminium sill for long-lasting protection
    • Aluminium interlockers, rubber seals, and wool pile strips to create an airtight seal that helps keep drafts out and improves energy efficiency

    Operation & Installation

Q: How smooth is the door operation?
A: The doors slide smoothly and quietly, thanks to precision fittings and quality materials designed for easy daily use.

Q: How should I prepare and care for the door before installation?
    A: Before installation:

    • Store the door vertically, under cover, on a dry and ventilated surface
    • Treat all six sides of the door—including rebates and beadings—with your preferred wood treatment
    • Remove the face cover on top of the frame to access all areas for treatment

Q: Can I paint the door any color?
A: Yes, but please avoid dark colors like black on the exterior, as excessive heat can damage the door and void the warranty.

Q: What do I need to check before installing the door?
A: Verify the door matches your order and has no defects—report any issues within 24 hours. Also:

    • Measure diagonals, horizontal, and vertical sides of the frame to ensure it’s square and level before installation
    • Make sure the door fits easily without forcing

Q: How should I install the door?
    A: When installing:

    • Ensure external sills slope away from the door to prevent water pooling
    • Avoid installing the door flush with outside surfaces
    • Install the door level and square with beading on the outside

Q: Can you order custom size doors?
A: Yes, we custom make all our sliding doors to the size you need.

    Glazing Options

Q: Is double glazing available? Can I only use clear glass?
A: Yes, double glazing is available. Moreover, you’re not limited to clear glass—we can manufacture doors with glass to your exact specifications, including tinted or patterned glass.

Q: What glass should I use if glazing the door?
A: Use only laminated or toughened glass. Additionally:

    • Leave a 3mm to 6mm tolerance around the glass to fit snugly in the rebate
    • Use a plastic weatherproof spacer under the glass
    • Seal with neutral silicone or linseed oil-based putty where needed
