Since 1997, K Parker Joinery has been manufacturing custom wooden entrance doors for homeowners, architects and builders throughout South Africa. Over the years we’ve seen design trends come and go, but one thing has remained the same – every home deserves an entrance that makes a statement.
Rather than predicting the latest trends from overseas, we’d rather share what we’re actually manufacturing in 2026. These are the designs, materials and entrance combinations our customers are choosing every day.

The Biggest Pivot Door Trend in 2026
The biggest pivot door trend in 2026 isn’t one specific design. It’s the move towards custom entrance systems – combining the right door, frame, sidelights, fanlights, timber and finish to create a truly unique entrance. Here’s what we’re actually building.
Today’s homeowners aren’t simply choosing a front door. They’re designing the entire entrance to their home.

The Princess and Axl Continue to Lead the Way
If we had to choose two wooden pivot doors that customers ask for more than any others, it would be the Princess and the Axl designs.
Manufactured from premium Meranti hardwood, these designs have become favourites because they combine timeless style with clean, modern lines.
One of the biggest advantages of buying directly from a manufacturer is flexibility. Because we manufacture every door ourselves, we’re able to adjust the proportions of the design to suit the final size of the door. Whether your entrance is taller, wider or completely custom, the design can be adapted so it still looks balanced and elegant.
Instead of forcing your home to fit a standard door, we manufacture the door to suit your home.

Marine Ply Horizontal Groove Doors Continue to Grow in Popularity
Modern architecture continues to favour clean lines and simple detailing, making our Marine Ply Horizontal Groove doors one of our fastest-growing ranges.
Marine ply offers an exceptionally smooth painted finish and excellent water resistance, making it an ideal choice for contemporary entrance doors.
Many homeowners assume marine ply limits the size of the entrance because the sheets are restricted to approximately 1200mm wide.
In reality, this has inspired some of our favourite entrance designs.
Rather than creating one oversized door, we’re manufacturing complete entrance systems using a Marine Ply Horizontal Groove pivot door combined with matching sidelights. The result is a much larger entrance that feels bright, modern and welcoming.

Sidelights Are Making a Comeback
One of the biggest changes we’re seeing is the return of sidelights.
Whether manufactured from timber or combined with aluminium, sidelights are becoming an important part of modern entrance design.
They allow more natural light into the entrance hall while creating a wider and more impressive front façade.
In many cases, homeowners are choosing a standard-sized pivot door and using sidelights to achieve the grand entrance they originally imagined.
Sometimes the most impressive entrance isn’t created by a bigger door—it’s created by a better design.

Taller Entrances Are Being Created with Fanlights
Large entrances continue to be popular, but bigger doesn’t always mean a taller door.
We manufacture pivot doors up to 2400mm high, but many homeowners are now combining the door with matching fanlights and sidelights to create entrances that appear significantly larger.
This approach adds natural light, creates better proportions and allows the entrance to become a true architectural feature of the home.

Double Doors Continue to Make a Statement
While pivot doors remain one of our most requested products, beautifully designed double entrance doors continue to be an excellent choice for wider entrances and traditional homes.
Double doors create a welcoming entrance and offer timeless appeal, particularly when combined with matching frames, sidelights or decorative glazing.
Like our pivot doors, every double door is custom manufactured to suit the project.

One Door Can Look Completely Different with the Right Finish
One of the questions we’re asked most often is:
“What colour should I finish my door?”
The truth is that the very same door can have a completely different character depending on how it’s finished.
Natural oils highlight the timber grain and create a warm, contemporary appearance.
Clear varnishes protect the timber while allowing its natural beauty to shine through.
Rich walnut and darker stains create a bold, sophisticated entrance.
Painted finishes can transform a traditional design into something clean and modern.
Because we supply our doors untreated, every homeowner has the freedom to choose the finish that best suits their home and personal style.

A Word of Advice About Dark Paint Colours
Dark painted entrance doors remain extremely popular, especially charcoal and black.
However, there is one important consideration.
Dark colours absorb significantly more heat than lighter finishes. If a timber door is fully exposed to direct sunlight throughout the day, the additional heat can increase movement within the timber and, over time, contribute to cracking or premature finish failure.
For this reason, we generally recommend very dark painted finishes only where the entrance is protected by a porch, overhang or covered patio.
Sometimes choosing the right finish is just as important as choosing the right door.

Choosing the Right Timber and Glass for Your Entrance
Every entrance door is unique, and selecting the right timber, glass and finish depends on your home’s architectural style, the amount of natural light you want to introduce, your desired level of privacy and the overall project requirements.
At K Parker Joinery, most of our entrance doors are manufactured from:
- Meranti – a premium hardwood known for its beautiful grain, durability and versatility.
- Saligna – an attractive hardwood suitable for a variety of applications.
- Marine Ply – ideal for contemporary painted doors, horizontal groove designs and excellent water resistance.
We also offer a range of glazing options, including clear laminated safety glass for maximum natural light and Arctic Snow laminated glass where additional privacy is required. Glass can be incorporated into the door itself or combined with matching sidelights and fanlights to create a bright, welcoming entrance.
If your project calls for something different, we can also manufacture doors in other suitable timber species, including Teak, subject to availability and project requirements.

We’re Not Following Trends—We’re Building Them
For nearly three decades, K Parker Joinery has been manufacturing custom wooden entrance doors for homes across South Africa.
The biggest change we’ve seen isn’t a particular groove pattern, timber species or glass design.
It’s homeowners wanting an entrance that’s uniquely theirs.
A custom-designed entrance system that combines the right pivot door, matching frame, sidelights, fanlights and finish to create a home that makes an unforgettable first impression.
Whether you’re drawn to the timeless elegance of our Princess and Axl Meranti pivot doors, the clean contemporary lines of our Marine Ply Horizontal Groove collection, or a completely custom entrance designed from the ground up, we’ll manufacture it to suit your home—not a catalogue.
